U.S. Army Europe Coin
Headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) is made up of more than 60,000 Soldiers stationed at approximately 240 installations throughout the European continent.
Operating as the forward deployed land component of the U.S. European Command, USAREUR oversees the command of the U.S. Seventh Army and maintains responsibility for a territory comprised of 93 countries. Providing America's military with immediate force projection and crisis response capabilities, the skilled and courageous members of U.S. Army Europe stand always ready to defend the nation's vital interests. A critical component of America's Global War on Terrorism, USAREUR forces continue to play a major role in U.S. Military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This coin pays tribute to the tireless commitment and outstanding dedication to duty demonstrated by every member of U.S. Army Europe. The obverse contains the official shoulder sleeve insignia of U.S. Army Europe, which is comprised of a double-handled sword surrounded by flames, set against a blue field and positioned below the arc of a rainbow. The reverse contains U.S. Army Europe's Distinctive Unit Insignia, which depicts a vertically positioned sword with a gold hilt and white blade above a banner that reads: "Sword of Freedom."
