Rest In Peace, Silent Warriors

By Brandy Vega
VP Media and Communications, OPSGEAR®

Freedom isn't free! It never has been and it never will be. We were sadly reminded of that again Saturday August 6th as

30 Americans, seven Afghans and an interpreter were killed in the deadliest incident for U.S. forces in the Afghanistan war when their helicopter was shot down.

My stomach has been turning since hearing the news. It makes me sick to know that evil men took the lives of some of the bravest warriors in the world. Daily they do the deeds without fanfare or recognition. Things that most of us can't even comprehend. They definitely don't do it for the money or the accolades. Most of the time their faces and identity are hidden and if you saw them on the street you wouldn't have a clue of their true character. You might even be surprised to learn that the silent warrior may live near you or work with you.

When these men are killed in action often times it's called a "training accident" but they do it willingly, knowing any minute could be their last. They leave behind a wife and children each time saying goodbye, choking back a tear knowing they may never see them again. Often times they are sworn to secrecy and will never be able to mention a word about the things they've seen or done. The term band of brothers couldn't be more true for the quiet heroes who know that no one else besides the guys on their left and right truly understand them or know what they've been through.

It takes a certain type of person who's altruism stems much deeper than blood...they do it for you, me, God and Country! Why? Only they can answer that. But, I think it's because God sent his chosen to protect and watch over the sheep. There rewards aren't in or of this world. I believe the Father will greet them with open arms and say "Good Job My Good and Faithful Servant". Our country has seen these heroes since the beginning of time and they will continue to come. Yet, this day we pause, mourn and remember the sacrifice of these particular men. God Bless you and your loved ones for the ultimate sacrifice. You will not be forgotten! Thank you.
