  • $ 9.50
  • Save $ 0.50

Formed in 1994, the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) oversees the operation of the Army's massive health care system.

Comprised of approximately 53,000 military and civilian personnel, MEDCOM exercises worldwide command and control of virtually all non-tactical elements of the Army Medical Department (AMEDD), including TDA hospitals and clinics, medical research, doctrine and leadership development, soldier-medic training, health promotion, and dental and veterinary services. Headquartered at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, MEDCOM has command of Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

This coin salutes the U.S. Army Medical Command's commitment to sustaining the strength of America's Soldiers. The obverse contains MEDCOM's official Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, which replicates the sword and snake design used to represent the field of medicine throughout the world. The reverse contains the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the Army Medical Command, which is dominated by a maroon cross and surrounded by a banner that reads: "Responsive and Dedicated."

Minted in a brass alloy and finished in bronze, this coin contains enameling on both sides. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the mission and history of the U.S. Army.
