What makes the 98 good is its rugged and simple design. I have never had a ball break inside of it, or have it jam up and cease firing. You can drop it, not clean it, and neglect it, but it will still fire. I have had to break down other paintball guns for cleaning and maintence, but it felt like I was working on a Ferrari, overly complex. The 98 is more like a Ford, if you have two hands and common sense, you can take it apart and put it back together. Also, the good people at OPSGEAR have made enough attachments for the 98 that you can pretty much do anything with it.

the 98 is like the AK of paintball. they are cheap, they dont break, and they are everywhere. i just got one as a backup, and its great. ive seen a guy drop a 98 10ft off a ledge onto a rock. he went down, got it, and shot is with no problems. you want durablity, go with the 98. its great for beginners too.

the Tippmann 98 custom is a great gun......for a beginner, thats right, if you just play in your woods with your dad or brother, or friend, its perfect. But if you play at fields all the time, or are semi-professional, then get the tippmann A5 or X7(if your into woodsball, or milsim). The great thing about this gun is its customization capability, you can put stocks, barrels, egrip, cyclone feed on it. But when you take it apart the front sight spring always flies out, and is hard to get back in. IF YOU ARE ON A LOW BUDGET GET THIS GUN GREAT BUY. but if on a bigger budget, and want a better milsim gun get the A5 or X7

I have had this gun for 4 months now, it plays great I have went through probably 8000 paintballs and only chopped maybe 3 of them. And I play in the winter every weekend. A lot of my friends gun just couldnt handle the cold weather but my tippmann 98c never made a fuss. I have now got a new barrel and a m82a1 kit for it. But I would recommend the A5 if you have the money, thats an upgrade I have my sights on in the future. But I LOVE this gun. Everytime my friends gun jams my gun fires perfectly. It never lets me down.
